Ms. Fixit 11-1-2001 I spent career 3 as a welder and mechanic. Before that, in career 2, I was in the building construction/ remodeling/ repair business. Career 4 was building, upgrading and repairing computers. (If you're wondering, career 1 was farming). One consistent theme I have encountered through life is that NOBODY knows how to FIX THINGS. What's more, they DON'T WANT TO. Somehow, it is "beneath" them to dirty their hands or bother to learn enough to build or fix anything. Observing this apparent truth, I carved out a niche in the employment world by doing things that nobody else would do because they we "too good" to to do it. The sad fact however, is that since these are dirty jobs nobody wants to do, they don't seem to think the workman who has obtained the skill deserves much compensation for his labor. But even worse, the attempted repair by the unskilled often DESTROYED the item, or made such a MESS that the job of the skilled workman was made doubly difficult- the item has to be cleaned up or RECOVERED from the botched repair attempt. Such is the world we live in today. I have lost interest in going to medical doctors because they seem to consistently ALL be "cut from the same cloth" of New Age thought, manner, or attitude. Honestly, I find myself wondering why I need to be present during an "examination", because they don't hear a word I say and IGNORE my "complaint" (the sole reason I went there). They seem to operate according to a "script", and consistently go a completely different direction than MY COMPLAINT. The past 3 years, I have noticed that medical doctors have become exceedingly interested in prescribing SSRI psycotropic drugs. Since the events of 9-11, this has become the FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS. I really have to wonder- "How much kickback ARE THEY GETTING from the drug companies?" Since I am completely disabled with advanced Chronic Bronchitis (the result of Career 3), my SINGLE REASON for going to the clinic is Upper Respiratory Infections (URI). A bacterial infection in my lungs is DEATH to me. I don't need anthrax bacteria to die- mycoplasma is plenty. Plainly said- I am going to the clinic to get a prescription for an antibiotic. My conditions are well diagnosed and documented. There is nothing else to "discover". I don't need or want "medical care". I am going for the darned antibiotic, and I KNOW when I NEED IT. EVERY TIME I go to the clinic, I am already "near death" from the URI. Do they pay any attention to THAT? Noooo. I have always had "high normal" blood pressure. So instead of antibiotic for my OBVIOUS problem, I get blood pressure pills. And if I even crossed my eyes, I could have all the psycotropic SSRI pills I wanted. But they argue with me about antibiotics. It's only after I end up having to INSIST on a blood test, do they RELUCTANTLY agree to prescribe antibiotics- AFTER seeing the "high white blood cell count". I have NEVER BEEN WRONG YET. They have been 100% wrong 100% of the time. What's wrong with this picture? Now, back to my point. Just like the social workers over at your "friendly" local CPS, the mental health profession, and the medical profession is stuffed FULL of the New Age humanist mindset. As G. Arthur Morrison illuminates in his essay The New Class: An American Nomenklatura - "One characteristic of New Class occupations is the difficulty of gauging the actual quality level of an individual's performance. Incompetence becomes harder to spot, hence the NC becomes a haven for mediocrity." So today, we have entire professions created since the 1970's to employ these New Age, New Class people in their mediocrity. They have no "fixit" skills. They are however very, very good at "breaking things that aren't broke" and "destroying things while trying to fix them". Keep that in mind next time you listen to a doctor or psychiatrist, Social Worker, bureaucrat or politician. |
